Fluoridation of Queensland's water supplies is currently being implemented to address the higher levels of tooth decay experienced by our children in comparison to those in other Australian states. The DOHTAQ supports the benefits of fluoride as an effective individual and public health strategy in the reduction of dental caries and achieving oral homeostasis. The DOHTAQ adopts the view that appropriate fluoride regimes should be determined using an individual care approach based on assessment of oral health needs, the environment and current documented literature.
Up-to-date information is available on-line for oral health staff, other health professionals, parents and community members at the Queensland Health website
